Ongina, who appeared on the first
season of all-gay cabler Logo's RuPaul's Drag Race, has
recorded a video in support of the non-profit group Re:solve
AIDS.
During an emotional breakdown
in episode four of the show's first season, Ongina acknowledged that
he is HIV-positive and had yet to tell his parents.
“Hi, my name is Ongina and most of
you know that I'm HIV-positive, so please make sure you protect
yourself, if you're HIV-negative, or if you're positive, please make
sure that you're careful and always take care of yourself. Always
get tested and please support the Chronic Disease Fund for Re:solve
AIDS. Thank you.” (The video is embedded in the right panel of
this page.)
Ongina, who is based in Los Angeles,
has gone on to become the host of Logo's
HIV + Me, a video segment that features young people
living with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
Last week, RuPaul, the host of RuPaul's
Drag Race and America's first drag superstar, crowned
Raja, rocker Adam Lambert's makeup artist, the winner of the show's
third season.
