Singer Elton Johns says he won't spoil
his son Zachary.
John and his partner of nearly 18
years, filmmaker David Furnish, welcomed the birth of Zachary Levon
Furnish-John on Christmas Day in Los Angeles.
In
an appearance on ABC's Friday night news magazine 20/20,
John and Furnish told Barbara Walters that they were well aware of
the pitfalls of spoiling a child.
“The worse thing you can do to a
child, and I've seen it happen so many times, is the silver spoon,”
John said. “And being the child of a famous person is also very
difficult. It's very hard. So we're going to have to work on that.
This is not going to be an easy ride for him. We're very well aware
of the pitfalls of that.”
Furnish added: “We want him to grow
up with a good sense of values. Realizing that while our life might
be very luxurious, it's all come from very hard work.”
“I don't want him to get the sense
that things in life don't have value or meaning. That hard work
brings rewards.”
John also confirmed that singer Lady
Gaga is Zachary's godmother.
