Singer Cyndi Lauper says she's grateful for her relationship with the gay community.

Lauper is set to perform at the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center's Evening with Women on April 16 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

In a wide-ranging interview posted on the group's website, Lauper talked about her relationship with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

“I have had a very long and enduring love affair with the LGBT community,” Lauper said. “The community has been there for me throughout my career, and I hope that I have been there for the community whenever they have needed me. I am inspired by the community's unwavering ability to never give up, especially in light of so much discrimination and hatred in the world.”

Lauper also mentioned that her True Colors tour to benefit gay charities and groups will return, but in a “new and exciting way.”

The 57-year-old musician added that the housing project for homeless gay teens her group is erecting in Harlem will open this summer.

“We are very excited to finally open the doors,” she said.
