Christina Aguilera's Beautiful
has topped a poll of most empowering LGBT songs, MTV
News UK reported.
The poll, which was conducted by the UK
gay rights group Stonewall, asked respondents which track of the last
decade they felt had the most empowering message.
Thirty-three percent gave their nod to
Aguilera's 2003 hit.
In the video for Beautiful, two
men kiss and hold hands in public. (The video is embedded in the

Also in the running were Lady Gaga's
gay anthem Born This Way, which placed third with 17% of the
vote after Boyzone's Better with 25%. Gossip's Standing in
the Way of Control and Katy Perry's Firework,
which
she dedicated to the gay teen suicide hotline The Trevor Project,
won fourth and fifth place, respectively.
“I'm delighted to have been voted the
most inspirational pop act by Stonewall's supporters – my gay fan
base is so important to me and this continues my special relationship
with them,” said Aguilera.
In
a recent It Gets Better video, two Columbus, Ohio choirs joined
to dedicate their rendition of the song to troubled lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender teens.
