The DVD of the gay-themed jailhouse romance film starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor arrives on Tuesday.

I Love You Phillip Morris, which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, is based on the true story of Steven Russell (played by Carrey, Liar Liar) and his improbable transformation from small-town businessman, father and former cop to gay white-collar criminal and ingenious jailbreaker. While in prison, Russell falls in love with his cellmate Phillip Morris (played by McGregor, Star Wars). (The film's trailer is embedded in the right panel of this page.)

The film's distribution on DVD and Blu-ray ends a long wait for fans in the United States. I Love You Phillip Morris has been available for purchase or rental in Britain and other countries since last summer. That is due to the film's nearly 10-month delayed release in the United States.

In a recently released video clip, McGregor said he didn't want to play a gay stereotype.

“I didn't want to look like a straight man playing gay,” McGregor said. “I didn't want to play kind of stereotype – what straight people think gay people are like. I wanted it to be honest and believable.”
