Dr. Brent Ridge and author Josh
Kilmer-Purcell, the gay couple starring in the reality series The
Fabulous Beekman Boys, have recorded a video urging New Yorkers
to support the legalization of gay marriage.
“I'm Dr. Brent Ridge, I'm Josh
Kilmer-Purcell, also known as the fabulous Beekman Boys, and we are
New Yorkers for marriage equality,” the couple says in their
30-second ad.
“We're among the thousands of New
Yorkers who are currently denied marriage equality,” Kilmer-Purcell
says.
“In our small, upstate village our
neighbors treat our relationship as equal to theirs,” Ridge says.
“It's time the law did, too,”
Kilmer-Purcell adds. (The video is embedded in the right panel of
this page.)
The
ad was released on the eve of the show's second season on cabler
Planet Green.
The Beekman Boys' ad is part of an
ongoing campaign that features prominent celebrities and politicians.
The campaign, backed by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the
nation's largest gay rights advocate, has previously featured
Hollywood
couple Ethan and Ryan Hawke, Robert
F. Kennedy, Jr., and actress
Fran Drescher.
Several
New York city mayors – former and current – have also recorded
ads for the campaign.
