Singer Ricky Martin in the role of Che
in the Broadway revival of Evita has been described as
“heaven” by the show's choreographer.
The 39-year-old father of twin boys
Valentino and Matteo will follow in the steps of Mandy Patinkin, who
played Che in the original Broadway musical, when he takes to the
stage in spring 2012.
The new production marks the first
return of the Perons to the Broadway stage since Evita's 1979
Tony Award-winning New York debut starring Broadway diva Patti LuPone
as Eva Peron.
Martin's dancing prowess is lauded by
director-choreographer Rob Ashford in a
new interview with Entertainment
Weekly.
Ashford, a 20-plus year Broadway
veteran and Tony winner, said he can't wait to see Martin in the new
production.
“I can't wait,” Ashford said.
“That's going to be heaven. I have some thoughts already. We did
the show already in London, but there were moments that I wished
there was more of an opportunity [for dance] and he's [Martin] going
to provide it. There's no question.”
