The National Organization for Marriage
(NOM) has attacked California State Senator Mark Leno for supporting
My Uncle's Wedding, a
children's book.
In the book, Andy helps his uncle Mike
plan his wedding to Steve.
Leno's support for the book at its
March 5 launch party in San Francisco didn't sit well with NOM, the
nation's most vociferous opponent of gay marriage.
In
a blog post titled After
Gay Marriage: What Next? CA Senator honors children's book on SSM,
the group took at a swipe at Leno.
“CA State Senator Mark Leno has
issued a proclamation to coincide with the launch of My Uncle's
Wedding, a new book which introduces children as early as 4 to
same-sex marriage,” the group wrote.
Leno congratulated the book's author,
Eric Ross, and said My Uncle's Wedding “serves as a conduit
by which to bolster understanding in our community.”
Comments on the NOM blog ran mostly
negative.
“Yes, by all means lets encourage
children into a lifestyle suffering pandemic AIDS, syphilis, MDR
gonorrhea, flesh-eating MRSA and others …” wrote one commenter.
“Seriously? And Christians are the
ones that are brain washing kids???” wrote another.
“Folks, this is just plain SICK and
to target children as young as four is immoral, perverted and
disgusting!”
“I found this book heartwarming,”
added Jamie Ward.

the book to his daughter is embedded in the right panel of this
