Three-time U.S. National Figure Skating
champion John G. “Johnny” Weir was sighted in New Jersey signing
copies of his memoir.
About 70 people showed up at the Barnes
& Noble bookstore in Clifton, New Jersey to meet and speak with
Weir as he signed copies of his 272-page tell-all memoir Welcome
to my World late last month, the Clifton Journal reported.
Weir kicked off his Welcome to my
World book tour at the Columbus Circle Borders Book in Manhattan
on January 11.
In the book, Weir announced his sexual
orientation, a subject he previously adamantly refused to discuss.
“With people killing themselves and
being scared into the closet, I hope that even just one person can
gain strength from my story,” Weir said in an interview with
People.com to promote the book.
Weir also talks about a romantic affair
with a male skater referred to only as “Alex.” In previous
interviews, Weir had described his single long-term relationship as a
“miserable failure.”
In other interviews, Weir chided the
gay media for pressuring him to come out.
