Singer Ricky Martin's first single
since coming out gay honors equality.
Martin announce he was gay in a blog
post on his website in March and then kept mum about the details
until the release of his memoir, titled Me, in October.
In interviews to promote his book, the
Livin' la Vida Loca singer opened up about his sexuality and
why he had denied persistent rumors for so long.
He told Oprah Winfrey that living a lie
had become “painful”
“I couldn't take it anymore, Oprah,”
he said. “It was too painful.”
The gay dad said holding his twins sons
– Valentino and Matteo – in his arms gave him the courage to
come out of the closet.
“Before I decided to become a father,
I already accepted who I was. I was happy with who I was. When I
held my children, I said, OK it was time to tell the world,” he
said.
As he prepares to release his new
studio album, titled Music + Soul + Sex, Martin continues to
embrace his sexuality.
Among the images shown in the album's
first music video for the single The Best Thing About Me Is You
are gay and lesbian couples in affectionate poses.
“Freedom,” Martin says in the
video. “You, me, we're equal.” (The video is embedded in the
right panel of this page.)
