Celebrity conservative Ann Coulter has
come to the defense of gay GOP group GOProud Chairman Christopher
Barron.
Last Friday, Coulter tweeted a link to
video of Barron being interviewed by The Young Turks regular
Cenk Uygur on MSNBC's The Ed Show.
“Great video:
head of GOProud interviewed by retarded person on MSNBC,” she
messaged her more than 22,000 followers.
In
the interview, Uygur asks Barron, “Why on God's green Earth are
you even a Republican?”
When Barron insists
that the GOP accepts gays, Uygur responds: “You gotta wake up, man.
In 2004 they ran the whole national campaign against hating you. In
2006, they ran the whole national campaign against hating you.”
“I am wide
awake,” Barron interrupts, “and the conservative movement [is]
winning and we are a proud part of that movement.”
Barron thanked
Coulter for the support, messaging back, “Happy New Years to
@AnnCoulter the only person I know who pisses off the gay left more
than me!”
And Coulter later
added: “Again: Our gays are so much mas macho than their
straights.”
In a The Young
Turks segment, Uygur responded: “Some people thought I was too
harsh on him. I look back on it and I thought I should have been
harsher. I can't wait to interview him again. He has zero facts on
his side.” (The video is embedded in the right panel of this
page.)
Last year, Coulter
agreed to speak at GOProud's annual gathering of gay conservatives,
but she
rankled some in the crowd when she said gay folks are not entitled to
marry. After
repeal of “Don't Ask, Don't Tell,” she insisted open gay service
will weaken the military.
