Actor James Franco has suggested that
the might be gay.
In an Entertainment Weekly cover
story, the 127 Hours star who likes to keep people guessing
talked about the persistent rumors that he's gay.
Franco, who recently played gay in
three films – Howl, Milk and The Broken Tower
– denied
he's gay in a cover story for gay glossy The Advocate.
“Everyone thinks I'm a stoner, and
some people think I'm gay because I've played gay roles,” he said.
“That's what people think, but it's not true. I don't smoke pot.
I'm not gay. But on another level, there's something in me that is
able to play roles like that in a way that's convincing.”
He
followed up that interview by posing in drag for the fall-winter
cover of Candy, the magazine dedicated to androgyny and
transsexualism.
Now, the actor, who has been in a
years-long romantic relationship with actress Ahna O'Reilly, is
letting people make up their own minds.
“There are lots of other reasons to
be interested in gay characters than wanting myself to go out and
have sex with guys,” Franco
told EW. “Part of what I'm interested in is how these people
who were living anti-normative lifestyles contended with opposition.”
“Or, you know what, maybe I'm just
gay.”
