Openly gay celebrities Clay Aiken, Alan
Cumming and Denis O'Hare will star in the one-night-only production
of Broadway Backwards 6, all-things-Broadway website
BroadwayWorld.com reported.
The February 7 show will benefit
Broadway Cares/Equity Fight AIDS and New York City's Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual & Transgender Community Center (the Center).
Broadway Backwards flips the
originally intended gender of crooners singing popular Broadway
tunes.
Thirty-two-year-old Aiken rose to fame
on the second season of Fox's reality talent show American Idol.
He's since gone on to record six studio albums and star on Broadway
in the musical revival of Monty Python's Spamalot.
Tony-winning actor Alan Cumming
(Cabaret) can currently be seen on CBS drama The Good Wife.
Cumming,
an early Obama supporter, created a stir when he called the president
a disappointment on gay rights.
Denis O'Hare won his Tony for Take
Me Out, but has gained fame on HBO's vampire drama True Blood.
Broadway Backwards 6 will also
feature Tituss Burgess (The Little Mermaid), Len Cariou
(Sweeney Todd), Kevin Chamberlin (The Adams Family),
Robin De Jesus (La Cage aux Folles), Jose Llana (The 25th
Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Lin-Manuel Miranda (In The
Heights), Debra Monk (Curtains), Bobby Steggert (Ragtime),
Brian Charles Rooney (The Threepenny Opera) and Tony Yazbeck
(Gypsy).
