Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has
the pundits wondering what's her angle in re-tweeting Tammy Bruce's
pro-gay message.
On Monday, Palin passed along to her
more than 350,000 followers Bruce's original tweet: “But this
hypocrisy is just truly too much. Enuf already – the more someone
complains about the homos the more we should look under their bed.”
Bruce immediately praised the
development as a signal that the former Alaska governor is gay
friendly.
“I think @SarahPalinUSA RT my tweet
is her first comment on DADT, treatment of gays & attempts to
marginalize us – thank you Governor,” Bruce tweeted.
“She's a decent woman & friend to
the community,” she added. “I think we homos may have to get an
additional honorary disco ball – unless @SarahPalinUSA &
@AnnCoulter are willing to fight over it.”
Bruce is a gay Republican who serves in
a leadership position in the gay GOP group GOProud.
Last year, conservative celebrity Ann
Coulter agreed to speak at the group's annual gathering of gay
conservatives, but she
rankled some in the crowd when she said gay folks are not entitled to
marry.
Palin also enjoys a similar rocky
relationship with gay Republicans, who insist she's gay friendly.
But Palin has supported
many anti-gay candidates, spoken at gatherings sponsored by
anti-gay groups and tweeted
support for rabidly homophobic pastor James David Manning, who
insists gays should be called “fags.”
