The BBC has ordered a second season of
the lesbian drama Lip Service, lesbian
entertainment website AfterEllen.com first reported.
“Something for your Christmas
stocking: Lip Service 2 is a go!” BBC
Three announced on Facebook. “Thank you for all your messages
of support. Here's to a very happy New Year!”
More than half a million viewers tuned
in to watch the drama's first season unfold over six episodes
starting in October.
The show – dubbed the “British L
Word” – features Ruta Gedmintas (Spooks) as Frankie, a
young woman whose return from America to Glasgow for the funeral of
her beloved aunt creates a stir among her friends. Former lover Cat
(Laura Fraser, Vanilla Sky) becomes anxious when she learns
that her old flame has returned after a two year absence. Exciting –
but wild – Frankie quickly gets the town talking.
What awaits the ladies in the next
season? Creator Harriet Braun offered some hints.
“I am incredibly happy to be given
this opportunity to take the characters forward and to allow all our
loyal viewers a chance to get to know them even better,” Braun said
in a statement. “I've got some great twists, turns and surprises
up my sleeve for series two.”
