Comedian Kathy Griffin, star of Bravo's My Life on the D-List, has been named Straight Ally of the Year by gay entertainment website GregInHollywood.com.

“When it has been time to step up and speak out in favor of same-sex marriage, against 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' and about the bullying that has led to too many gay teens to kill themselves, Kathy Griffin has been there with clarity, conviction and with the facts,” Greg Hernandez wrote in a blog post announcing Griffin's win.

“This two-time Emmy winner for My Life on the D-List shows up at rallies and benefits for marriage equality and against 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' and has used her experiences on her popular Bravo show,” Hernandez added.

The 50-year-old comedian has been a vocal opponent of the military's ban on gay and bisexual troops serving openly and California's gay marriage ban, Proposition 8.

She also popularized the phrase “trickle down homophobia,” a reference to the negative effects of anti-gay politicians and religious leaders. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
