The performances of three women playing gay have been nominated for a Golden Globe, upping the likelihood of an Oscar nomination.

Natalie Portman's portrayal of a lesbian ballerina in Director Darren Aronofsky's much heralded thriller Black Swan and the stars of the lesbian moms movie The Kids Are All Right, Julianne Moore and Annette Bening, have received best actress nominations.

Portman has been nominated in the drama category, while Moore and Bening will compete in the comedy-musical category.

The movies the women star in have also been nominated. Black Swan for Best Motion Picture – Drama and The Kids Are All Right for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.

Earlier this week, Bening won the New York Film Critics Circle's Best Actress award for her portrayal of Nic in The Kids Are All Right. And the film's scriptwriters, Lisa Cholodenko, and Stuart Blumberg, received the group's Best Screenplay award. The group gave their Best Supporting Actor award to Mark Ruffalo, who plays the biological father of the children in the film.

Portman, Bening and Moore are considered strong contenders for an Oscar nomination.
