Producers of the nighttime teenage
drama 90210 have found their “hot, super-athletic” love
interest for Trevor Donovan's gay character in newcomer Freddie
Smith.
Smith has been cast to play Teddy's new
love interest, Marco, according
to Entertainment
Weekly's
Michael Aussielo. The newcomer appears in the upcoming comedy
One Wish.
A casting call for the role described
Marco as “hot” and “super-athletic.”
Aussielo also revealed that Teddy's
current beau, Ian, played by Canadian pop star Kyle Riabko, will be
written off the show.
“Smith is being brought in to fill
the void left by Riabko, who is leaving of his own accord,”
Aussielo wrote.
Donovan told gay glossy The Advocate
that he's excited about playing the part and wants his character to
have a love life.
“Heck, yeah,” he
said. “I'm an actor, this is what I do. I'm telling a story,
and it wouldn't be realistic if we didn't go there. I have no
problem with that at all.”
Smith is expected to heat up West
Beverly Hills High starting in February.
