Bristol Palin, the daughter of former
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, has responded to Dancing with the
Stars competitor Margaret Cho with a gay joke.
In
a blog post at her website, the 41-year-old comedian, who is
celebrating her birthday on Sunday, wrote that Sarah had forced
Bristol to appear on the ABC dancing contest to boost her political
prospects.
“I heard from someone who really
should know … that the only reason Bristol was on the show was
because Sarah Palin forced her to do it. Sarah supposedly blames
Bristol harshly and openly for not winning the election, and so she
told Bristol she 'owed' it to her to do DWTS so that 'America would
fall in love with her again' and make it possible for Sarah to run in
2012 with America behind her all the way.”
Bristol, who was pregnant in 2008 when
her mother shared the Republican ticket with Arizona Senator John
McCain, disagreed with Margaret, saying on her Facebook page that “It
saddens me that people would think that my mom would 'blame' me for
anything that occurred in the 2008 election – much less 'harshly'
and 'openly.'”
In the post, titled CHA-CHA-CHA
to CHO-CHO-CHO – HERE'S A HINT: THREE DOG NIGHT, she goes
on to make a gay joke: “You say you 'don't agree with my family's
politics at all' but I say, if you understood that commonsense
conservative values support the right of individuals like you, like
all of us, to live our lives with less government interference and
more independence, you would embrace us faster than KD Lang at an
Indigo Girls concert.”
While Margaret is currently married to
a man, she has said that she's bisexual. She also is a strong ally
of the gay community.
Last week, Sarah
came to the defense of her daughter Willow's use of homophobic slurs.
During the midterm elections, Sarah
endorsed a number of anti-gay candidates and spoke at events hosted
by anti-gay groups.
