A gay activist and author has called
pop singer Lady Gaga “evil” for her support of gay rights.
Ryan
Conrad is the editor of Against
Equality: Queer Critiques of Gay Marriage, a
collection of articles that argue against gay marriage.
Speaking
at Georgetown University, Conrad railed against mainstream gay and
lesbian politics, the
university's weekly the Georgetown
Voice
reported.
“What does
marriage do for us?” he asked.
“By pulling on
our heartstrings and appealing to equality, many of us have been
duped into the gay marriage debate. People are dying because they
can't get access to health care and you're talking about marriage as
a battle to end all battles; it's a huge distraction.”
Conrad's book is a
collection of essays from mostly bloggers who argue that the gay
community should create its own vision of family and celebrate our
differences.
“People talk
about inclusion, inclusion, inclusion,” Conrad told attendees.
“But it's really about transformation, transformation,
transformation.”
He also took a
swipe at “the platform of Lady Gaga,” who has advocated for the
legalization of gay marriage, the end of “Don't Ask, Don't Tell,”
the law bans gay and bisexual troop from serving openly, and the
passage of gay inclusive hate crimes legislation.
Conrad added “Lady
Gaga is evil.”
