Singer Ricky Martin says he's in love
and wants the option to marry his partner in the U.S.
Martin is returnig to the spotlight
after taking a break from his career to devote time to his twin boys,
Valentino and Matteo.
The Livin' la Vida Loca singer,
who came out gay on his website in March, is promoting his memoir
Me!, which is also available in Spanish, and an upcoming
studio album.
In an interview last week on the Oprah
Winfrey Show, he
told Winfrey that holding his sons in his arms gave him the courage
to come out of the closet.
During an appearance on ABC's The
View, an
emotional Martin received a warm round of applause when he said he
loved gay teens.
And he told celebrity glossy People
that he's in love. “I'm in love,” Martin said, adding that the
couple will go public “whenever he's ready.”
In a Tuesday night appearance on the
CNN's Larry King Live, Martin
said getting married is not on the table at the moment but that he
wants the option to marry in the U.S.
“I want to have that option,” he
said. “I don't want to be a second-class citizen anymore. I pay
my taxes. Why can't I have that right?”
“We can go to Spain and get married,”
Martin said. “We can go to Argentina and get married but why do we
have to go somewhere else? Why can't I do it in my country where the
laws are protecting me?”
