The Christian conservative group
American Family Association (AFA) says being gay is a choice that
will “leave you diseased, lonely and dead.”
“Sexual behavior is a choice,
homosexual behavior will leave you diseased, lonely and dead, you've
got to learn to resist homosexual impulses, I'm here to help,”
Bryan Fischer, director of issue analysis at AFA, wrote
at his blog on Monday.
Fischer made his remarks while
discussing whether being gay is a choice, a
topic recently addressed by President Obama, who said he believes
sexuality is not a choice. He concluded that it doesn't matter
because “sexual behavior is always, always a choice.”
Earlier in the month, Fischer
blamed gay groups for a recent string of suicides by gay teens who
had been bullied by classmates.
“Homosexuals cannot reproduce so they
must recruit,” Fischer wrote at this blog. “Part of the agenda
of groups like GLSEN [the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education
Network] is to urge students at younger and younger ages to come out
and declare a disordered sexual preference. Sexually confused youth
are pressured into locking into a sexual identity far before they are
mature enough to do so.”
According to the Iowa Independent,
the AFA has bankrolled an effort to oust three Iowa Supreme Court
justices who ruled in favor of legalizing gay marriage in 2009,
pledging to spend $200,000 on the effort before November 2.
