Actress Fran Drescher will be honored
next Saturday at HRC's annual Garden Party in Palm Springs.
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the
nation's largest gay advocate, will present Drescher with their Ally
for Equality Award on November 6.
Drescher is best know for playing the
role of Fran Fine on the CBS sitcom The Nanny.
In a video released last week, Drescher
urges New Yorkers to join the campaign to legalize gay marriage in
the Empire State.
“With a voice like this, you know
I've got to be a New Yorker,” Drescher says in the ad, referring to
her unmistakable nasal drawl. “But I'm also an American. And to
me that means justice and equality and liberty for everyone.” (The
video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
The video series, which features
celebrities and prominent politicians, including Moby
and New
York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, is being backed by HRC ahead
of a hoped-for vote next year to legalize the institution in the
state.
