Celebrities on Wednesday joined to
support Spirit Day, the day people are urged to wear purple and turn
their Twitter and Facebook profiles purple to remember gay teens who
have been bullied to death.
E! News anchors Ryan Seacrest
and Giuliana Rancic, along with E! News Now anchors Amy
Paffrath and Melana Scantlin, will wear purple on the air today.
Several stars – including television
personality Khloe Kardashian, actress Alyssa Milano, country singer
Chely Wright, Real L Word creator Ilene Chaiken and openly gay
actor Wilson Cruz – have joined with GLAAD to share messages of
support for gay teens.
“I will be wearing purple this
Wednesday,” said Jill Zarin, star of Bravo's Real Housewives of
New York City. “No child should be the victim of bullying, and
as parents, we need to teach our children that everyone deserves to
be accepted for who they are.”
In his appearance on The Ellen
DeGeneres Show, Fort Worth Councilman Joel Burns will be wearing
purple. A
video of Burns' emotional speech to his fellow lawmakers on gay teens
committing suicide has gone viral.
