Figure skater John G. “Johnny” Weir
is teasing that he's straight, possibly in an effort to sell more
copies of an upcoming memoir. And he won't do “dirty” porn.
The three-time U.S. National Figure
Skating champion with a knack for being flamboyant has never directly
announced he's gay, opting instead to sidestep such rumors.
But in an exhaustive
profile published in New York magazine, he suggests he
might be straight.
Speaking on sexual orientation, Weir
offers: “Why is anything important? You don't need to have labels.
I would marry a woman. I very well could. People laugh at me, but
why is that so funny? I love women.”
The 26-year-old star of his own reality
series, BE GOOD JOHNNY WEIR, which airs on cabler Sundance,
suggested he's gay on the show's season finale.
Weir dropped the hint as he prepped
with his agent, Tara, to attend the Gay & Lesbian Alliance
Against Defamation's (GLAAD) annual Media Awards.
“Take it off your head right now,”
Weir commands Tara, referring to a gaudy hair accessory. “We are
not going to agitate the gays.”
“Because I know you think the Jews
run the world,” he continues, “but let me tell you something. We
are the decorators, we are the florists, we are the designers, we are
the dressers, we are the stylists, we are everything.”
In the New York piece, he says
he's prepared to do anything, except appear in a “dirty” porn.
“I was offered to do a porno movie,”
he says. “It was a masturbation movie. I looked at it and said
no. It's dirty. So I won't do porn, I won't do anything where I
have to wear a big fuzzy animal costume, like no Disney On Ice or
anything, and that's basically it. I'll try pretty much anything
else. I mean, I don't want to drive a Zamboni.”
Weir has previously said he'll address
the issue of his sexuality in a yet-to-be-published memoir.
