Jane Wiedlin, rhythm guitarist-singer
of the 80's all-girl band the Go-Go's, will debut her Big Gay
Ice Cream Truck theme song on Sunday.
The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck offers a
combination of gay activism, campy fun and frozen treats as it prowls
the streets of New York City.
Doug Quint and Bryan Petroff launched
the truck last summer at Brooklyn's annual gay pride festival.
“I think the political issues that
the truck inspires are partly a matter of timing,” Quint told On
Top Magazine last summer.
“It came at the right moment. This has brought a new dimension to
the project and I welcome it.”
“The initial inspiration was pure
pipe dream, but then I came to see that there could be a cultural
side effect.”
Among the truck's gourmet topping
options are Trix Cereal (“It's queer, colorful and
youngster-friendly, like us!” Quint said), cayenne pepper, maple
syrup and fresh berries.
Wiedlin will be on hand to introduce
the never-before-heard theme song, which will also be available for
download on iTunes, at a 7PM event at Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream in
San Francisco. She'll be joined by Petroff and Quint, who'll also be
celebrating his birthday.
