An online poll by conservative network
Fox News shows that 72 percent of respondents agree with a recent
ruling that struck down Prop 8 as unconstitutional.
The federal judge's decision striking
down California's gay marriage ban narrowly approved by voters in
2008 was announced on Wednesday. The judge released his ruling
nearly eight months after conducting a 13-day trial in a San
Francisco courtroom.
Readers are being asked the following
question: “A federal judge ruled on Wednesday that Prop 8,
California's gay marriage ban is unconstitutional. Do you agree with
the judge's decision?”
Seventy-two percent of respondents
checked, “Yes – Prop 8 violates the constitution.”
Another twenty-four percent disagreed,
checking, “No – Marriage is an institution between a man and a
woman. I don't care what the judge thinks about the Constitution.”
Three percent said they didn't know but
“shouldn't the voters' views count for something?” And one
percent had no opinion.
Nearly
320,000 readers had responded to the unscientific poll as of Tuesday
morning.
