CBS has green lit a talk show to be
co-hosted by openly lesbian actress Sara Gilbert.
The yet-to-be-named show will replace
retiring daytime drama As The World Turns and will have a
similar format as ABC's The View, Nikki Finke's Deadline
Hollywood first reported.
Joining Gilbert in co-hosting the show
will be celebrity personalities Julie Chen (The Early Show, Big
Brother), Holly Robinson Peete (21 Jump Street, Celebrity
Apprentice), Sharon Osbourne (The Osbournes), Leah Remini
(The King of Queens) and Marissa Jaret Winokur (Hairspray,
Just Shoot Me!). The six women will discuss pop culture and news
events through a “mom's view,” CBS announced.
Gilbert co-created the show and will
executive produce, as well.
The thirty-five-year-old Gilbert is
best known for her portrayal of Darlene Conner-Healy on the ABC
sitcom Roseanne, which starred comedian Roseanne Barr. She
recently joined the cast of CBS' The Big Bang Theory.
Gilbert and her partner, Allison Adler,
are raising two children, son Levi Hank, 6, and 3-year-old daughter
Sawyer.
In a report released Friday, GLAAD
gave CBS a “failing” grade in its fourth annual report on
gay-inclusive television. The addition of Gilbert might help the
network improve its rankings in next year's survey.
The new show is expected to debut in
October.
