Scottish actor John Barowman says he
wants to play the role of a gay dad on the Fox musical comedy hit
Glee.
According to UK celebrity tabloid Heat,
Barrowman approached producers about playing one of Rachel Berry's
gay dads.
Barrowman told the paper that he had
met with the show's casting directors.
“The ball's in their court, though,”
he said.
The openly gay actor is best known for
playing Captain Jack Harkness on the BBC science fiction series
Doctor Who and Torchwood.
American television viewers will get
better acquainted with Barrowman this fall as he takes on the role of
Patrick Logan, Angie Bolen's evil ex-boyfriend, on ABC's Sunday drama
Desperate Housewives.
The 43-year-old Barrowman and his
boyfriend Scott Gill became civil partners in 2006. The pair met in
1993 at the Chichester Festival Theatre where Barrowman was
performing.
While Barrowman is best known in the
UK, the multi-talented performer was raised in Illinois from the age
of nine and studied performing arts at the United States
International University in San Diego.
