Actress Tammy Lynn Michaels says she's broke after her split with Melissa Etheridge.

In a posting on her blog, the thirty-five-year-old Michaels says she gave up her acting career in 2001 to become a full-time stay-at-home mom for the couple's children. Etheridge, 48, shares joint custody of two children – Bailey, 13, and Beckett, 11 – from a previous relationship with Julie Cypher.

Michaels gave birth to twins, son Miller and daughter Johnnie Rose, in October 2006.

“I'm borrowing cash left and right from people to get through this summer, and feed my kids, with a stomach full of ulcers, thank you,” she wrote. “No stress here. :-)”

Etheridge's Friday filing of paperwork to end their California domestic partnership was a shock to Michaels, who said she was left “blindsided.”

“SMACK!!!! FILE FOR DIVORCE!!!! even though we both promised; agreed; handshook; pinkyswore; no filing until after tour; in the fall; her broken promises; told to me by; headlines,” she wrote.

In the documents, the Grammy-winning singer cites “irreconcilable differences” and asks for joint custody of Miller and Johnnie Rose. Etheridge's lawyer is also asking the court to terminate its ability to award partner support.

The couple exchanged vows in Malibu, California in 2003. They reportedly attempted to marry during the 2008 June-to-November window when gay marriage was legal in California.

Etheridge has said her breakup with Michaels was mutual.

“As mutual as those things can be,” she told Oprah Winfrey. “It's sad, and we share two children and she will always be in my life.”
