Actress Tammy Lynn Michaels says she
was “blindsided” by Melissa Etheridge's filing for dissolution of
their California domestic partnership.
Etheridge reportedly filed paperwork to
end their partnership on Friday, according
to celebrity website TMZ. The women announced their split in
April.
In the documents, the Grammy-winning
singer cites “irreconcilable differences” and asks for joint
custody of the couple's two children, son Miller and daughter Johnnie
Rose. Michaels gave birth to the twins in October 2006.
Etheridge,48, shares joint custody of
two children – Bailey, 13, and Beckett, 11 – from a previous
relationship with Julie Cypher.
The couple exchanged vows in Malibu,
California in 2003. They reportedly attempted to marry during the
2008 June-to-November window when gay marriage was legal in
California.
Eheridge has said her breakup with
Michaels was mutual.
But in a poem titled Blindsiding
posted on her blog Saturday, thirty-five-year-old Michaels asks
if blindsiding is art for Etheridge. “SMACK!!!! FILE FOR
DIVORCE!!!! even though we both promised; agreed; handshook;
pinkyswore; no filing until after tour; in the fall; her broken
promises; told to me by; headlines.”
“Could you stop blind sighting me?”
she asks, then adds, “Unless it's another art form you're working
on?”
