Openly gay celebrities Neil Patrick
Harris and Melissa Etheridge will be getting stars on the Hollywood
Walk of Fame next year.
The Hollywood
Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday their picks for 2011.
Also getting stars are: Reese Witherspoon, Penelope Cruz, Gwyneth
Paltrow, Tina Fey, Danny DeVito, The Go-Go's, Rascal Flatts and
Will.i.am.
The biggest surprises on the list
include Oprah Winfrey, the Muppets and Buddy Holly.
Harris, who
turned 37 on Tuesday, is in a domestic partnership with celebrity
chef and former actor David Burtka. The How I Met Your Mother
star tweeted the news to his fans: “Getting a star on the Hollywood
Walk of Fame – awesome. Having it be in the same year as the
Muppets – priceless.”
Grammy-winning singer Melissa Etheridge
made headlines in April when she
announced she was splitting from her partner, actress Tammy Lynn
Michaels Etheridge.
On Oprah's couch, the 48-year-old
Etheridge said the breakup was mutual.
“As mutual as those things can be,”
she said on The Oprah Winfrey Show. “It's sad, and we share
two children and she will always be in my life.”
