Former Grey's Anatomy star T.R.
Knight is the latest openly gay actor heading to Broadway, the AP
reported.
Knight will play John in playwright
David Mamet's A life in the Theatre.
Patrick Stewart will star opposite
Knight as Robert, a veteran actor who counsels John, a young actor
who shows great promise. The two men begin a relationship that
continues as Robert's career begins to decline and John's progresses.
Knight is the latest openly gay actor
to turn to Broadway. Recently out singer Ricky Martin is set to play
Che Guevara in the Broadway revival of Evita. The production
is set to open in 2012.
And Will and Grace alum Sean
Hayes has been nominated for a best actor Tony Award for his Broadway
debut in Promise, Promises.
Also competing in the same category is
Kelsey Grammer for his interpretation of gay nightclub owner Georges
in the Broadway revival of La Cage Aux Folles.
Sean Hayes will host Sunday's 64th
Annual Tony Awards, which will be carried live on CBS.
A Life in the Theatre previews
starring Knight and Stewart are scheduled to begin in September.
