Jim Anzide's Out
& About gay bus tour of Los Angeles took its inaugural run on
Sunday and promises to highlight the city in a whole new rainbow
tinted light.
The tour begins at ONE
National Gay & Lesbian Archives in West Hollywood, which
houses the world's largest research library on GLBT heritage and
concerns, and rolls by 100 points of interest.
In a recent interview with
AfterElton.com, Anzide said he was “blown away” by the amount of
gay and lesbian history in Los Angeles.
Most surprising, he said, was the
Tuscadero mental health facility that performed castrations or
lobotomies on gay men busted for lewd conduct that operated until
1968. “There wasn't a third choice,” he said.
The tour's brochure says, “We will
show you Hollywood like nobody has ever dared” and promises to
“blow the dust off over a century of closeted stars, underground
bars and gay rights battle scars.”
Tickets run $75 on Saturdays and
Sunday; must be 21 or over.
