Long-time gay rights activist David
Mixner has been hospitalized, according to a post on his blog at
DavidMixner.com.
The post, dated August 1, says:
“Unfortunately, Mr. Mixner is sick and in the hospital. He will
not be able to write his blog and is looking forward to being back
and sassy in a week or so. He thanks you for your patience and kind
wishes while he recovers.”
Mixner, who will celebrate his 63rd
birthday in two weeks, is best known for his public falling out with
President Bill Clinton. Motivated by candidate Clinton's pledge to
end gay and lesbian discrimination in the military, Mixner raised
millions for Clinton's presidential bid, but the pair parted ways
when President Clinton proposed “don't ask, don't tell,” the law
that prohibits openly gay service in the military.
San Francisco-based gay rights activist
Michael
Petrelis wrote on his blog: “Be a good patient, listen to your
doctor and the nurses, and get well soon.”
Recently, Mixner announced he would not
be able to attend the October 11 planned gay rights march on
Washington due to a conflicting commitment in Africa.
