Yesterday, Pennsylvania state Senator
John H. Eichelberger, Jr. announced he will hold a press conference
and rally today to announce a new effort to place a gay marriage ban
in the Pennsylvania constitution.
The short-on-details release announced
little more than the time, 10:45AM, and location, the steps of the
Blair County Courthouse in Hollidaysburg, of the anti-gay marriage
media event.
Eichelberger, a Republican freshman
senator, represents Pennsylvania's 30th district, which
includes Blair County.
Lawmakers have rejected similar
measures in the last two sessions of the Legislature.
Amending the state constitution in
Pennsylvania requires passage in two consecutive legislative two-year
sessions, followed by voter approval at the ballot box.
Currently, Pennsylvania bans gay
marriage by law, which anti-gay marriage foes say leaves the law
vulnerable to being overturned by a judge.
