Cookie Johnson, the wife of NBA legend Magic Johnson, said in a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey that her son EJ's coming out was “very hard” for her.

EJ Johnson, the star of E!'s reality series EJNYC, came out in 2013.

Cookie Johnson is on a book tour to promote her memoir Believing in Magic: My Story of Love, Overcoming Adversity, and Keeping the Faith.

She told Winfrey how she reconciled her faith with her son's coming out.

“That was a very hard thing for me,” she said during an appearance OWN's Super Soul Sunday. “So, I had to pray about it.”

“This was one of those moments where I had to go directly to God. And I prayed. The answer I got back was love,” she added. “That's when I knew I could love my son and support him on who he was. And I was okay with it because I made peace with God with it. So, I'm good.”
