A 32-year-old African-American
transgender woman was murdered in Baltimore on Friday, making her the
21st transgender American to be murdered in 2016.
Crystal Edmonds' body was found on the
city's northwest side with a gunshot wound to her head at about 3 AM.
She died about 8 hours later in a hospital, a police spokesman told
reporters at a news conference.
Police are asking residents for help in
their investigation, offering up to a $2,000 reward for information
on Edmonds' killer. Tips can be submitted by calling Metro Crime
Stoppers at 866-756-2587 or online at MetroCrimeStoppers.org.
According to The
Advocate, with Edmonds' murder, the number of transgender
people murdered this year has tied last year's number of reported
murders.
Edmonds' murder came less than a week
after the killing of an African-American transgender woman in
Chicago. Known simply as T.T., she
was found with her throat slit on Sunday.
