In her new memoir, A Little Thing
Called Life, Caitlyn Jenner's second wife, actress-lyricist Linda
Thompson, reveals that Jenner wanted to transition to female in 1985.
Jenner came out transgender last year
and went on to star in the recently
canceled I
Am Cait
reality series.
Thompson writes that Jenner (then known
as Bruce) came out to her in 1985.
“I have lived in the wrong body my
whole life,” she
said that Jenner told her. “It is a living hell, and I really
would like to move forward with the process of becoming a woman.”
“Bruce told me he was considering
traveling out of the country, possibly to Denmark, to try to have the
gender reassignment surgery anonymously and then come back as a
female,” Thompson wrote, adding that Jenner wanted to re-enter
their two sons' lives as a female relative.
The couple divorced the same year.
Thompson said that she felt an
obligation to keep quiet about Jenner's gender issues.
“I felt such an obligation to keep
Bruce's gender dysphoria his secret that I did not even tell my sons
until they were 31 and 29 years old, respectively,” she wrote.
