At a Donald Trump rally in
Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Governor Pat McCrory fired up the
crowd by suggesting that allowing transgender people to use the
bathroom of their choice poses a danger.
McCrory, who in March signed a bill
that prohibits transgender people from using the bathroom of their
choice, was given the task of introducing Mike Pence, the governor of
Indiana and Trump's GOP running mate.
“All right, let's be safe now. We've
got a big crowd, so if you need to leave suddenly, we've got exits
this way, exits this way and exits this way,” McCrory said,
motioning in several directions like a flight attendant. “And if
any of you need to use the restrooms ...”
The reference to House Bill 2 was not
lost on the crowd, who cheered and laughed, The
Washington Post reported.
After the applause died down, McCrory
added: “And if you have any questions, go to the Philadelphia
convention where all of the Democrats are.”
