Prince Harry and Elton John were among
the speakers at last week's 21st International AIDS
Conference in Durban, South Africa.
Harry talked about his mother's efforts
to stem the tide of AIDS.
“When my mother held the hand of a
man dying of AIDS in an East London hospital, no one would have
imagined that just over a quarter of a century later, treatment would
exist that could see HIV-positive people live full, healthy, loving
lives,” Harry said.
“What I believe is that we cannot
beat HIV without giving young people in every country the voice that
they deserve. Without education and without empowerment, HIV will
win,” he added.
Elton John, founder of the Elton John
AIDS Foundation, hit a similar note, saying that “young people are
being left out and being left behind in the AIDS response.”
