Appearing Wednesday on Access
Hollywood Live, RuPaul said that he was “so numb” from this
weekend's attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando.
“I am so numb from the whole thing
and everyone has something to say about it. I don't have any words
yet,” RuPaul said. “I don't want to minimize it into some
celebrity sound bite, and I know this is a benchmark for the American
people. This is a huge wake-up call for us on so many levels. There
needs to be a shift in our collective consciousness.”
Forty-nine people lost their lives in
the attack. Several of the dozens injured remain in critical
condition.
“It's not just about gun control.
It's not just about gay people. It's about our identity as
Americans. And that's the challenge for us moving forward,” he
added.
The RuPaul's Drag Race host
added: “Every American who believes in what this country stands for
is shaken to the core.”
