Ready or not America, you're about to
learn the amazing truth about Queen Raquela. Regent Releasing has
announced it will distribute The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela
in the United States next month.
Director Olaf de Fleur's transsexual
Cinderella film has been a huge hit at film festivals worldwide. In
February, it won the Berlin Film Festival's Teddy Award for best film
with a gay theme. Then, in July, the film won the Showtime Vanguard
Award at Newfest, New York City's gay and lesbian film festival.
And on September 26th,
Raquela reveals her truth at New York and Los Angeles theaters.
The Amazing Truth About Queen
Raquela stars Raquela Rios as a Philippine transsexual prostitute
in search of a fairy tale life in Europe. Director de Fleur found
Rios, a transsexual herself, on the Internet while she was living in
the Philippines. The film is Rios' acting debut.
The film documents the pair as they
travel to Paris, shortly after the director makes contact. Will
Raquela's dreams become reality? Will she find Mr. Right?
In an interview posted on the official
movie website Rios admits she spends too much time on the Internet
searching for the perfect guy. She says she realized early on she
did not feel comfortable as a male, but due to strict parenting she
kept it to herself. Finally, at the age of 17, she began living life
as a girl. It was “freedom,” said Rios.
