Rachel Bloom, the star of the CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, talked about her gay fans during a recent Writers Guild of America event.

“I connect with gay men on a level even I don't understand,” she told an audience of about 150. “It's like a dog whistle coming around – like when I meet other Jews. I don't get it but I really, really connect with gays and am glad anytime I can have an LGBT fan.”

The event, titled LGBT Characters on TV: What's New?, was moderated by Gay Star News' Greg Hernandez.

In Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Bloom's character quits a prestigious law firm to pursue an old boyfriend in Southern California.

In the show's first season, her boss Daryl (Played by Pete Gardner) comes out bisexual in an whimsical musical number. Gardner has refused to publicly discuss his sexuality.

“Pete Gardner is wonderful,” Bloom said. “He's been married to his wife for 25 years, but he's said he's not going to say.”
