Mia Farrow, Janet Mock and Jamie
Clayton were among the celebrities who showed support for director
Lilly Wachowski's coming out as a transgender woman.
The 48-year-old Wachowski said in a
statement given to Chicago's Windy
City Times that she decided to come out to avoid being outed
by Britain's Daily Mail.
“So yeah, I'm transgender,” she
wrote. “And yeah, I've transitioned.”
Wachowski's sister, Lana Wachowski, 50,
came out publicly as a transgender woman in 2012.
The siblings are best known for
directing The Matrix and its two sequels. More recently, they
created Netflix's Sense8.
Jamie Clayton, who is transgender and
plays a transgender lesbian on Sense8,
tweeted: “SO F*ING PROUD YASSS LILLY! I'm so
grateful I get to call you my friend XX.”
Mia Farrow messaged: “The brilliant
Wachowskis are now sisters, Lilly and Lana. I love them!!”
“Dear Lily Wachowski: Sorry your
trans-ness warranted tabloid threats,” transgender
author-television host Janet Mock tweeted, “but welcome to the
sisterhood!”
