Out singer Ricky Martin last week met with LGBT rights activists in Chile.

Martin, who performed three shows in Santiago, met with the Equal Foundation (Fundacion Iguales).

“I want marriage equality for Chile,” Martin reportedly said during the meeting.

“Ricky Martin is a global figure, which allows his message of equality and non-discrimination to reach a much larger audience,” said Luis Larrain, the group's CEO. “We hope that his testimony as a gay father will serve to eliminate prejudices and that the government will take notice that it must stop postponing marriage equality.”

Chile last year began recognizing the relationships of gay and lesbian couples with civil unions, but a push for marriage began even before lawmakers approved civil unions.

Martin talked about his sons Matteo and Valentino and the importance that they grow up in a world where “there are no second-class citizens.”
