A gay military couple who live near
Springfield, Missouri say they are surprised by the attention a
“first married kiss” photo has received.
Spc. Shane Adriano and Pfc. Tristian
Resz married last week at the Greene County Courthouse surrounded by
a few friends.
A “first married kiss” photo they
shared on Facebook, however, turned their intimate ceremony into a
global event.
“It just keeps getting reshared,”
Ariano
told the News-Leader
of the photo. “We had a little bit of negative comments on
there, but I wasn't even expecting that many people to like it and
share it over and over again.”
“The majority of people who were
commenting and sharing, they were doing it because they are proud of
how far the military has come,” Resz said. “Up until 2011 it was
illegal to be be openly gay in the military. Now, it's legal for us
to be married.”
