Comedienne Ellen DeGeneres tied the
knot with long-time girlfriend Portia de Rossi in an intimate
ceremony on Saturday, reports the online edition of People.
“Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi
were married tonight in an intimate ceremony at their home in Los
Angeles,” a spokesperson for the couple said.
DeGeneres, 50, a popular daytime talk
show host made headlines in 1997 when she came out on her hit ABC
sitcom Ellen.
De Rossi, 35, is an Australian-born
actress who gained fame on the hit sitcom Ally McBeal and more
recently appeared on Fox's sex-obsessed plastic surgery drama
Nip/Tuck.
The couple have been dating four years
and announced their engagement during a May taping of DeGenere's talk
show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The
union may be the highest-profile gay marriage since California
legalized gay marriage in June.
Guests
at the wedding included both women's mothers.
“She's
taught me lessons about myself, and I feel like I've taught her,”
DeGeneres said of de Rossi last year. “We've both changed and
grown, and we just feel like, 'Oh, okay, this is completion.'”
