Jennifer Boylan, who is part of Caitlyn
Jenner's inner circle on her E! reality series I Am Cait, said
this week that Jenner “thinks she can win Republicans over” on
women's issues.
At a Television Critics Association
panel on I Am Cait, Jenner, a Republican, was asked why she
doesn't just “support the party that supports women and women's
rights?”
“Well, I really don't want to heavily
get into politics, because, certainly, we have enough politics going
on in the United States right now,” Jenner answered. “But as I
tell the girls, it's kind of good. If the Republicans haven't been
very good on this issue – which I agree, they haven't been.”
“Certainly the Democrats have been
better on this issue. Isn't it good that they have an ally, somebody
on the team that can go in there and maybe change their minds?
That's a good thing. That's kind of the way I look at it,” she
added.
Boylan, an author and transgender
rights activist, responded: “She thinks she can win them over. We
[transgender women] are not one voice and, oh my God, some of us are
Republicans. For now.”
Jenner's politics are also expected to
come up during the upcoming second season of I Am Cait. A
trailer for the show released last week shows Jenner being questioned
on several issues, including marriage equality.
