A lesbian confronted Republican
presidential candidate Ben Carson during a town hall on Monday in New
York.
Carson, a former neurosurgeon, has
previously stated that he believes gay people choose their sexual
orientation.
Last year, Carson claimed that his
opposition to marriage equality stems from gay people having “control
over their sexuality.”
“Because a lot of people go into
prison straight and when they come out they're gay,” Carson said
during an appearance on CNN's New Day.
“Do you think I chose to be gay?” a
woman asked Carson on Monday.
“That's a long conversation,”
Carson answered before turning to pose with a supporter.
“I think you're full of shit,” the
woman responded with a smile, then walked away.
“Okay,” Carson said.
Carson's comments last year were widely
denounced and led to the candidate vowing to refuse to discuss LGBT
rights. However, Carson's self-imposed gag rule didn't last long.
He's gone on to call
on Congress to protect Kim Davis, the county clerk who refused to
issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples, call the Supreme
Court's marriage equality ruling its worst in 20 years, and state
that he doesn't want the
military dealing “with the transgender thing.”
